Lost In Thought

Music Video for Edalo (Trailer, full music video coming soon!)

This project was a chance for me to go out on my own, connect with an independent artist, pitch them an idea for a music video, assemble a team of 5 artists and turn an idea into reality. From storyboarding, to creating a custom 3D character, 3D modeling environments, working in Unreal Engine, color grading in Davinci Resolve, I had the chance to run through a long list of skills that I have been developing over the years. This gave me the chance to learn what it means to pilot a project and lead a team.

Ai Animatic Storyboard

After writing the story I generated reference artificial intelligence images in Midjourney and created an animatic for the film. I had a vision of what I wanted the scenes to look like it my head and it was important that I provided reference images to explain the concept to all artists involved.

Photoreal Character creation

Unreal Engine Metahuman

To create this high fidelity replica of Edalo I created a PDF guide with steps for him to follow in order to use Polycam to generate a mesh of his face. After he sent me the scan images I cleaned up the mesh in Blender and utilized mesh to metahuman to finish the character for use in Unreal Engine.

CABIN HERO ASSET

3D Modeled in Blender

Working off of reference images generated from midjourney, every part of Edalo’s cabin was modeled in Blender starting with a simple set of 5 bespoke logs and wooden planks.

UVs and Materials

Blender and Substance Painter

The same wood used to construct the house was also used for picture frames, desks, and furniture in the scenes. I then created the materials for the cabin in Substance Painter.

Being the director for this film meant that I gave feedback, revisions, and creative direction to the Unreal Engine artists that helped me on a number of shots. I hired the production company RAWx and they helped me with around half of the shots in the film consisting mostly of exterior scenes, while I worked on the interior scenes. I also color corrected the film in Davinci Resolve and hired and directed a compositor for final touches.
